Some of the things we had to adjust to when moving to Hawaii:
 Figuring
out how to pronounce Hawaiian street names.
Cockroaches
outside that are larger than a silver-dollar and fly!
You
can legally drive your car and enter stores/public buildings while
barefoot and Men can go shirtless.
Many
locals speak a version of English called Pidgin which takes a
while to get used to and understand.
National
sporting events are usually on in the morning due to the time delay
and are then also rebroadcast in the afternoon.
Being
Caucasian and being a minority.
People
will walk across the road without looking to see if a car is
coming. Middle of the night, dressed in black, they expect you
to see them (almost 2 people a month get run over in the highway
in my town).
The
people on the road, they drive like they are all insane.
You
can make a phone call from one town to another town 30 miles
away and it's still a local call.
Giant
centipedes that can really hurt you and even kill a small child
Something I didn't expect was the great service
I get with cable internet. Here in Hawaii we
have Roadrunner. I'm on the far end of the
island, over 30 miles from Honolulu yet my
speeds are fast, and the price is only $45 a
month, I think I was paying that in Grand Rapids
(speed results
here).
